Excellent synth pop to experimental compilation. This was one of the first releases by the supreme Some Bizzare label. I particularly love the Jell track on here, if anyone has any more from them, it would be greatly appreciated. I also have the Neu Electrikk - Cover Girl 7" which I will post later.

1. My Boy
2. Do Not
3. Joyboy
4. Everybody's Gotta Mutate

Jacket Weather

When Shadows Move (7", Iconoclast International, 1983, US)

1. The River Sleeps
2. Markers
3. Trust
4. Must Be West
5. I Would Dream
6. A Busy Morning

"
Gassen formed the pioneering minimalist-electro-wave act Jacket Weather in 1982, mixing dual Casiotone keyboards, real bass and drums – with the desolate imagery of the Arizona desert. “I loved the contrast of the synths with human percussion and the sensual backdrop of the desert,” Gassen adds. “We thought the tension of my cold, distant vocals and synths with the bombastic rock rhythm section made our sound unique.

Described in their day as a cross between Joy Division and Young Marble Giants, with some Wall Of Voodoo mixed in, Jacket Weather etched their own minimalist sound. Staccato, expressionistic vocals accent the snake-like mingling of the Casiotones, while a steady dance pulse backs the eerie mixture. Equally enraptured with Euro-synth, English post-punk and Los Angeles punk-wave, Jacket Weather found inspiration from such opposites as Our Daughter’s Wedding to the Suburban Lawns for their Casiotone symphonies." -from their myspace page

Awesome hard to find post punk/minimal synth/wave!

Crazy Hearts

Four Minutes To Midnight (7", Zoar, 1982, US)

1. Four Minutes To Midnight
2. Adrenalin Control

3. L-I-G-H-T

Crazy Hearts were a New York post punk band. The first track has a really strong PIL-vibe. Excellent echoed-out vocals. The other tracks are much more chaotic, reminding me more of the "no wave" sound. All in all a cool fucking record, highly recommended.

Péloquin/Sauvageau

"Launched in 1972, Laissez-nous vous em
brasser ou ça fait mal is one of the most original records ever made in Quebec. Though avant-garde, it still managed to garner radio support and wide public attention thanks to the trance-like track 'Monsieur L'Indien'. The 'Us' in Let us kiss you where it hurts is Claude Peloquin, controversial poet, And Jean Sauvageau, a Quebec electronic music pioneer. Together after memorable trips and artistic happenings throughout the 60's, they came up with this eccentric avant-garde masterpiece. With topics ranging from revolution ('Monsieur Emiliano'), to exploitation ('Monsieur L'Indien'), vasectomy ('Sterilization') or even scatology ('Mama Vagina'), the record exploded onto the local scene during the dark ages of Quebec Pop Music (something very similar to what's happening now). Claude Peloquin, the vocalist, can be heard laughing, screaming, babbling into the mike as he 'cracks open a brew' overtop a cocktail of explosive and highly original electronic music. A wall of sound shifting from synthetic psychedelic ambience, doped out choir to fucked up western. Techno spoken word? Electroclash? Experimental Rock? Pretty far from the hippie stuff you'd expect for the times."

Laissez-nous vous embrasser ou ça fait mal (LP, Mucho Gusto, 1972, Canada)

1. Monsieur L'Indien
2. Emilliano
3. L'Hymne International Des Clowns
4. Black Spaghetti
5. Le Cirque
6. Mama Vagina
7. Sterilization
8. Les Grand Silencieux
9. Down The Drain

Great album of early electronics and spoken word!

Pretty dance-y mix this time around, but in a weird way. I decided to start adding the location and year for each track, because I'm a dork, and I enjoy doing that sort of thing. It turned out kind of 1983-heavy... I guess that was a good year. I was negative 3.

Special thanks to Mutant Sounds, and all my other blog regulars for making my day, every day.

Keine Ahnung - Plastik (Germany, 1983)
Gorilla Aktiv - Die Maske (Germany,1982)
Dopplereffekt - Master Organism/Superior Race (Detroit?, 1995)
Conrad Schnitzler - Buta Raga (Germany, 1978-ish)
Absolute Body Control - Automatic II (Belgium, 1983)
Somnambulist - Things I Was Due To Forget (Belgium, 1983)
A Blaze Colour - Nowhere Else (Netherlands, 1982)
The Tanzdiele - Kleine Schlange (Germany, 1981)

My comrade Andrew Michael turned me on to this group yesterday. Their songs totally blew me away. Anybody who's a fan of The Neon Judgement/Cabaret Voltaire/Absolute Body Control/etc. will probably dig this. It's good to know that they're just around the corner in Houston, which is funny.... because they sound like they're from Europe in the early '80s.

Go listen!

Head over to Lars' blog and check out the completed Mastermind sequencer. I went over to his place and helped make some sample clips of the sequencer controlling analog drum modules. It was an exhilarating experience, to say the least. I can't wait to compose some new material with that stuff.

Here's some tunes I've been jamming:

SPK - Metall Field
Cabaret Voltaire - Silent Command
Portion Control - Preach
Eazy Teeth - Her Blade
Thomas Leer and Robert Rental - Day Breaks, Night Heals
The Klinik - Melting Close

Pseudo Code - Simulation (To The Blue Eyed Boy)
Test Dept. - Pulsations 1 (Human Run)
Tecnoville - Zusammensturz
Section 25 - Knew Noise

If you would like a personal mixtape sent to you with different songs email your name and address to obneeley@yahoo.com. Also, to note, this "podcast" is ripped from a mixtape on which all songs come from my record collection. Trebly...
